Dear Landlord,
I have been involved in the elevator and escalator business for over 28 years. My current business, KZN Elevator Consultants, serves as a mediator on behalf of Landlords in SA who have SLA’s with escalator and elevator companies, ensuring that all SLA’s are compliant and in accordance with health and safety regulations.
I was introduced to the Motion Icon product in 2015 and have since been reviewing the production and application process. I am pleased to confirm my personal findings as follows:
- The Motion Icon product does not contravene SANS 1543 (Specification for Escalators and Passenger Conveyors, or SANS 21 (Safety Rules for the Construction and Installation of Escalators and Passenger Conveyors).
- The Motion Icon product provides elements which could provide health and safety advantages for escalator users.
- The Motion Icon 8 point survey provides a much needed “added” service for Landlords which could assinst in the decline of “out of order” units and potentially a reduction in public incidents through improved accountability and overall proactive maintenance measures. The 8 point survey can also be used to identify anomalies in certain clearances which specifically contribute to the deterioration of associated mechanical components.
- The Motion Icon product now provides, for the first time, an advertising option on escalators which is not in breach of health and safety regulations.
- The Motion Icon product does not affect the Warranty of the escalator since the product can only be considered for installation after preliminary conditions are met. These conditions are checked via the 8 point survey. The preliminary conditions are primarily associated with clearances and, consequently, have no effect on the operation of the escalator. The product does not have any adverse effect on the escalator, largely due to the design of the product and the method of application.
Yours truly,

Sanjeev Singh
